

The author is a Palghat Iyer brought up in the North of India. After finishing Grade II from Nagpur, he continued his studies in Gwalior and Graduated as an Engineer He began his career as a trainee engineer in Gujarat in 1978 and went on to work in several construction sites in Rajasthan, Chennai, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. In 1991 he ventured into plant maintenance work at a vegetable oil company in Nigeria. He lived in Nigeria for seven years. Later he shifted to construction work once again and is presently resident with his son and daughter in the United Arab Emirates. His mother hails from Jamshedpur, the steel city of India. Having spent her life in the North of India, she is greatly influenced by the North Indian Style of Cooking. As an excellent cook she was quick to adapt to the North Indian ways of cooking. The Author has learned a great deal from her in recent times. The Author’s late wife hailed from Guna, a town in Madhya Pradesh. She was an excellent cook adept in the preparation of both North Indian as well as South Indian cuisines. Unfortunately, she died of kidney failure in 2003. Her culinary excellence has left a lasting impression on the author’s mind and has been a source of inspiration for writing this book.
